The Lighthouse Collection

The Lighthouse Collection

The design.

At the northernmost tip of Denmark, sits the town of Skagen, a small fishing village turned famous artist colony. Revered for its stunning light and picturesque qualities, Danish painters gathered regularly in the town from the 1870s until the turn of the century.  With its informal hand-stenciled typeface and an original ‘Falu red’ color, our Lighthouse collection of porcelain enameled signs evokes the intimate and vibrant atmosphere of this influential seaside community.

Lighthouse’s material counterparts.

We obtain the distinctive Falu-red color used for lettering and trim from a copper pigment, a shade that stands out against neutral backgrounds. When mounted on exposed wood, unpainted shingles, and clean white surfaces our Lighthouse house numbers and address plaques catch the eye, adding a refined visual highlight.

The places and spaces for a Lighthouse sign.

The seaside cottage. Perfect for a quaint gabled-roofed retreat among the dunes, our Lighthouse house numbers and address plaques can add a little bit of color without overwhelming the eye.  The rust-red color hints at its copper origins, giving the lettering and trim an earthy quality. The sign’s sturdy metal base is protected with a vitreous enamel  finish, ensuring that the Lighthouse signs will not corrode or fade over time.

The urban waterfront.  As cities continue to transform old industrial ports to residential and commercial developments, a new wave of waterfront construction has emerged. A hand-stenciled Lighthouse porcelain enameled sign can give a traditional detail to contemporary waterfront architecture. The color combination works well on a brick facade of a canal row house or a wood exterior that references the piers.

The interior.  The casual, decorative  typeface is personal and inviting, making it a natural choice for personalized enamel nameplates or door signs. When mounted on reclaimed interior wood paneling or on the siding of a screened-in porch, a Lighthouse plaque can help make a space exceptional.

Why we love the collection.

The Lighthouse collection is our most expressive style, reflecting the picturesque and spontaneous sensibility of Denmark’s North Jutland region. A point where two seas meet, the expanse of white sand beaches and heathlands form a unique and inspiring landscape. Whether our handcrafted Lighthouse signs and plaques are placed on a waterfront property or a building far away from the tide, the porcelain enamel surface will glimmer when touched with light.
